The independent voice of rowing in Britain

Murray and Bond express steams onward (M2- final Munich)

Posted by rowingvoice on June 21, 2012

Eric Murray and Hamish Bond maintained their record out front and have lost count of the number of races in which they are unbeaten. It appeared an easy day at the office for them, but they are not showing signs of complacency.

‘We haven’t hit our speed this year yet,’ said the stroke, Bond. ‘We’ve been getting better the last couple of weeks. But we need to tweak the boat and find our natural speed.’ Maybe they miss the closeness of Reed and Hodge, but whether or not, they have had a charmed passage to Dorney.

The new challengers from Britain, George Nash and Will Satch, were elsewhere while Satch recovers from injury. Britain’s second string, Nathaniel Reilly-O’Donnell and Cameron Nichol, finished third in the B final. James Marburg and Brodie Buckland of Australia had the honour of following the Kiwis over the line, five seconds adrift. Canadians there were none.

Gold New Zealand, silver Australia, bronze France; ITA, ESP, SRB.
